As current President of Elevator U, I would like to take just a few moments of your time to introduce our association and the benefits it provides to professionals such as yourself.  As we enter a new year, it’s always good to focus on the things we can do better, for ourselves and for those we serve.

Mark your calendars, June 19th – 21st are the dates for the 2012 Elevator U Annual Conference.  Hosted by Michigan State University it will be held at the Kellogg Hotel and Conference Center and will have the same format as years past.  Online registration will be open early 2012.  The Elevator U Board of Directors appreciates the support that our conference receives and would like to thank all of you for making each year a success.  Consider getting your sponsorships in early. The attachment is (Airport Shuttle Hours) for a Kellogg shuttle to transport to/from Lansing Airport.  You can use http://www.michiganflyer.com/location-east-lansing.asp – if you use Michigan Flyer from the Metro, you will still have to use the Kellogg shuttle unless you want to walk.  It’s about a mile from the Michigan Flyer drop off/pick up (at the Marriott off campus).

Professional members shall be those individuals who are Facility Managers, Mechanics, Architects, or Engineers. They shall not be employees or principals of any business entity controlling or directing the application, manufacture, distribution, sales, or marketing of products and services. Professional members shall be eligible to vote, serve on committees, and to hold any office of ELEVATOR U.

Industry members shall be those individuals who are employees or principals of any business entity controlling or directing the application, manufacture, distribution, sales, or marketing of products and services. Industry members shall be eligible to vote, serve on committees, and to hold any office of ELEVATOR U.

Affiliate members shall be those individuals who are in the industry, such as consultants and employees of consulting or inspection concerns and government agencies or inspectors, and who share an interest in the activities of ELEVATOR U. Affiliate members shall be eligible to vote and shall be eligible for election to the Board of Directors.

Associate members shall be those individuals who are not actually within the industry, such as educators and employees of business concerns and government agencies, but who share an interest in the activities of ELEVATOR U. Associate members shall not be eligible to vote nor shall they be eligible for election to the Board of Directors.

Honorary members shall be professional, industry, or associate members who have been members in good standing in ELEVATOR U, have reached the age of retirement, and have been recommended for such change in status by documented application to the Secretary. Members so qualified may, upon approval of their application by ELEVATOR U, be granted the status of Honorary Member. They shall have the rights and privileges of a professional, industry or associate member in accordance with the classification held at the time of application for change in status.

A copy of the by-laws will be available to any active member of the Elevator U organization.

EESF Attends the Elevator U Conference at Penn State

July 15, 2011 - The Elevator Escalator Safety Foundation (EESF) was represented at the Elevator U Conference at Penn State in State College, Pennsylvania on June 7 – 9, 2011.  EESF was offered a complimentary registration and exhibit booth space for the conference.

EESF and Elevator U not only care about maintaining the highest standards of university facilities management, but also about safety education available to college students.  These organizations wish to prevent any injury or death because of lack of elevator knowledge.

During the Elevator U Board Meeting, staff reported that the newly released Rise Up Safe Ride program had 3,674 Visitors to the webpage, 40 Elevator Poster downloads and 37 Inside Elevator Poster downloads.   A request was presented to the board to form a committee for the marketing of the program to universities in the U.S.

Elevator U supported the Foundation by allowing them to host a silent auction on June 8, 2011, during Elevator U’s opening night reception.

Elevator U requested each exhibitor bring at least one silent auction item to be displayed in the exhibitor’s booth.  Conference attendees visited each booth to view and bid on the items available.  This gave the exhibitors a unique opportunity to interact with conference attendees and display their products.

At the conclusion of the event, each exhibitor brought forward their item and the winning bid was announced.  The Elevator U silent auction raised $3,915 for EESF which will be used to help the Foundation achieve its mission.

In addition to the silent auction, Glenn Duncan of Parts Specialists, Inc. volunteered to conduct a 50/50 raffle with proceeds to go to the EESF.  Duncan sold tickets for two days, collecting $1,040 from attendees and exhibitors alike.  The winning ticket belonged to Jeff Kneuer.

EESF would like to thank the exhibitors for their generous donations of items for the silent auction; everyone who bid on items; those who purchased a raffle ticket and the Board of Elevator U for allowing the event to take place.

The Mission of the Elevator Escalator Safety Foundation is to educate the public on the safe and proper use of elevators, escalators and moving walks through informational programs.
